It's pretty amazing, when you think about it, how similar the second-rate film actors Keenan Ivory Wayans and Mario Van Peebles look alike. The mention of these two stems from an argument I had earlier today in which I claimed Mr. Van Peebles was the star of 1997's Most Wanted, while Chris contended that it was Wayans. I was, in fact, wrong. I suppose having actually seen the film may have given me more of an edge in this debate. I claim now, however, that the two look so much alike that there is really no point in differentiating between them, even though Van Peebles directed New Jack City and starred in Solo, clearly making him the superior, especially because Wayans is to blame for the Scary Movies. Ick.

I auditioned today for Tartuffe, for which I read a monologue from the film October 22, which I recommended to the assistant director while viewing said movie last weekend. It's one side of a phone discussion between Peter Benson (Tate Donovan) and some anonymous film exec by the name of Marty ("Marty, Peter Benson with Promotional Concepts."). It's outstanding.

January 26, 2003

I slept at Joe (S)'s last night and watched October 22, Doctor Katz and laughed my ass off at the bios from the Genesis game Eternal Champions. We also went to Philips 66 and got big gulps. It was pretty sweet.

I woke up, came home, then spent a few hours trying to solve all the clues to the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt. It wasn't happening. I need another clue.

Peace.

January 24, 2003

Monday will mark the first day of my last semester in high school. I'm ultra excited, especially because I will have only four classes (at most). We celebrated the end of first semester last night with a one dollar movie night. We watched a few short films and The Sandlot, which is definitely one of my favorite movies. The list of which has now grown too long. Perhaps I'll have to pare it down a little and put it up on the next incarnation of this site, on which I have been toiling for the past few weeks. It's nothing special, and it probably won't last long, but fuck it.

Since 19 January, we had another party at Joe's, this time celebrating his birthday (His and his mother's are one in the same). We told more stories. We watched Turbulence 3: Heavy Metal, which is great and almost deserving of a place on the aforementioned list of my favorite movies. We found out that I was right and that Pavel was wrong (Slade, the star of T3:HM performed the original Cum On Feel The Noize, and not Quiet Riot). We went and saw The Ring at the cheap theater. We watched Joe Millionaire (one of the greatest things going on TV) and Meet My Folks (one of the other greatest things going on TV). We took our final exams. We found Joe, Ben, John and I each a date for SnoDaze (as well as four lucky ladies). We chilled in Inver Grove Heights. We watched Super Troopers.

Note that in the last paragraph "we" refers to a group of people, ranging in size from two to twenty-something, as I have forgotten most of the specifics of the past week.

January 19, 2003

I had a lot of fun tonight. Ben came over around three or four and we berated Look Down (in their absence) for the ridiculousness of their appearance this morning on The Breakfast Club. While it was funny, little of it served for the furtherment of them as a band, especially as a credible one; a force to be reckoned with, if you will. It actually wasn't that bad. I would later approach Jacob on the subject, to which he justified their lack of seriousness: He won't act serious about recordings he can't deem so (i.e. just about anything on their album.).

Later, I, along with Ben and Charlie, went to Cheapo, where I purchased Built To Spill's Keep It Like A Secret. The aforementioned confronting of Jacob occured at Joe's house, where we celebrated his mom's birthday. We passed the time --and the bottle-- telling stories. And we laughed. My god, did we laugh.

Finally, we rented Barbershop and continued said laughing. Although tainted with a somewhat "Friday"-esque plot, it is an altogether well-done film. Cedric the Entertainer, whom I find hilariously un-funny on television, is excellent and, alone, makes the movie worth it. See it.

January 17, 2003

When I woke up this morning, my head hurt worse than I can ever recall. I thought it better not to go to school and back to bed instead. Indeed, I was right. After waking up for the third time, I threw up something fierce. Fierce and purple. I don't know what it was, but it was enough to expel whatever evil there was inside me, so I called up John, who had spent the better part of his three hours of school in the student council room, coming up with possible SnoDaze dates for Keirnan. We went to Chipotle, and thinking better of it than to eat whatever it was that may have made me feel so ill, ordered some chips and guacamole. And a coke, with a lime. I do feel a lot better now, and after a small amount of detective work, have attributed my sickness to the aspirin I'd taken on an empty stomach, without water, on account of the aforementioned headache.

So that was my day so far. Tonight, Joe, whose car hit 200,000 miles yesterday, and who found out earlier today that he had been chosen to direct Tartuffe (We decided against "Flea" in the long run.), is planning on celebrating his eighteenth birthday tonight with a trip to El Bustan. Rah.

Peace.

January 14, 2003

I didn't go to school until 11:00 today, which was sweet, then missed sixth hour because of a student council meeting, which was cool. Then I went to Joe's house where we messed with fake blood, which was okay. I went home and did something for five hours. I don't know what. Then Amelia and I went to see Jackass for a dollar way out in Hopkins, where they play music through speakers outside at 11:00 at night and say "Y'all take care."

If Jacob doesn't know his East side, then I sure as hell don't know my outer metro area. I didn't even know such a place existed. I'm not sure I'm ready for small town life. Heh... Yenga.

Peace.

Here's an e-mail I'm thinking of sending today, when I get home from school:

     Dear Jacob,

     Shut up, Jacob.

     -Todd

or... an alternate...

     Dear Jacob,

     You suck, Jacob.

As far as the general suckiness of the Grammys goes, this year's list takes the cake. I didn't have a chance to look at the entire list until today and I must say, even though I have come to expect very little, the nominees are absolutely awful this year. Normally I would mention the redeeming qualities of several nominees on the list, but there are so few that I can barely even recall what I've just read. The Dixie Chicks got a nomination for album of the year, and Wilco didn't, not to mention The Flaming Lips. Christ!

Now I have to go present my Book Review. Pray for me.

Peace.

Apple released a bunch of sweet new toys today (Tuesday). I immediately downloaded (and loved) Safari, which is the best goddamned web-browser I have ever experienced. I'll have to get iMovie 3 when it becomes available on 25 January. I may or may not get iLife. It depends on how badly I need iDVD 3.

Pavel gave me a compilation CD today. It's pretty tight.

I have to present my ToK Book Review tomorrow (Wednesday). That both sucks and kicks ass, in that the presentation itself will, most likely, blow, but I will be finished with it, which is a huge fucking relief.

Peace.

January 5, 2003

Today is the last day of winter break. That means tomorrow I have to go to school for an entire week before I have any time off again. I'd forgotten about this concept and frankly, it disappoints me. Add to that the knowledge that I have a TOK presentation and paper due on Wednesday, and I am flat-out upset. Distraught. Frustrated. Angry. Fuck!

At John's on Thursday, Drama Board chose the spring play: Feydeau's A Flea In Her Ear. It's a sex farce involving incredibly inappropriate subject matter. Sounds like fun. After that, we went to Eclipse Records, picked up Alex, held Alice for ransom, and went back to John's. We watched Pulp Fiction, then Joe and I played Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and giggled for about an hour. I slept at John's that night, then on Friday went to Perkins in the morning, got a free eggs benedict, went home, watched the five hour Infinifilm version Goldmember, which was ridiculous, hung out at home, then went to The Two Towers for a fourth time. Now all I do at that movie is point out things I don't like and add my own sarcastic commentary. I love the movie, but it's really long, and I have little patience with things that take up almost three hours of my time.

Yesterday, I went to El Bustan with Charlie, William, Cale, and John (gender). Then John, Charlie and I went back to my house. We were joined by Jessie and (briefly) by Emily, Caitlin, and Keegan (ascending according to pissed-off-ness at John). Initial plans to have a little fun were marred by argument. It was kind of weak. We watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off instead, which was kind of fun anyway.

Peace.

January 2, 2003

Today (Wednesday), I started working on the new design for my site. It's totally rad.

Tonight, Kelsey, Jessie, Julie, Joe, John and I (hair length) all chilled at my house, which is about the only thing I've done during break. We watched Insomnia and played Monopoly

My New Year's Eve was pretty tight. I began the evening by bowling, scoring 134, 168 and 119, which improved my recent sucky average, if even only slightly. Kelsey, John and I left the alley around 10:00P and went to the McGlave's. I won both games of pool that I played (by default), had a Coke-Cola, celebrated a little, then left. Keegan, Caitlin, Emily and I went to chill at Microtel until something like six in the morning. It was kind of messed up. Some dumbass girl with ugly hair checked us into the wrong room. We had a kick-ass time regardless.

Peace.
